IT
I will be analysing three different films and explaining how important sound is to music and how it is used in films to create various moods and atmosphere to people that is watching
the first film is will be analysing it and the projector scene this is where the kids of the loser club are trying to find out more about the shapeshifting clown and come across a projector that has images of him dating back 100 years ago
the music used to create the ambience is the drums and silence everything else is silent except the clicking sound of the projector going through the images this give a sense of suspense as with every click to the next slide the music grows louder and louder to portray a build up where something is due to pop out at the end it slowly begins to introduce the sounds of horns and the screams of the children while the slides are still going on the sound effects of the children bumping in to chairs and tables moving back portray a emotion of fear there are non-diegetic sounds throughout the scene as well as some diegetic sounds that being the music in the background and the diegetic being the bumping and movement of tables and chairs and the clicking of the slides on the projector.these non-diegetic sounds occurred at around (1.20) where the projected was clicking through the slides then another time at (2.09) where the boy kicked the projector. I think the use of the music and all the sounds coming together is to amplify the feel of tension and to feel uncomfortable while that particular part of the film is playing
DEADPOOL
The next film that is will be analysing is dead pool 2 where colossus is fighting the juggernaut in this scene there are many sound effects of metal clanking and grunting this is the diegetic sounds but there are actually no non diegetic sounds besides the music in the background that is playing you could say that there are voice over sounds like the metal as that is dubbed over the speech while they are fighting.
another use of sound in this fight scene is to create mood and the mood of this scene is surprise and awe of these two huge characters fighting the also they use the sounds of metal and other sounds to exaggerate the power of the punches and kicks that these characters are throwing and taking, the diegetic sounds starts at around (0.29) everything is made to seem more then what it is to give the audience a better show I believe that this is a prominent and powerful scene in the movie because everything was in sync with each other to create this for example the music fit perfectly with the action the diegetic sound of the everything moving in the background added to it and then the speech dubbed over the music to make the scene constantly grow in tension to make the audience think who is going to win and what's going to happen.
GODZILLA
the last film that I will be analysing is Godzilla when he first comes to fight Ghidorah in the 2017 adaptation of the old film Godzilla there is a range of sounds going on in this. scene from the heavy blowing of the wind that is there to build up tension in the fight between Godzilla and ghidorah there is thunder going on in the background which is a diegetic sound as the music starts to go quiet at around (0.19) seconds the producer has made the main character Godzilla Roar powerful and loud which in my opinion portrays an image to the audience of how strong and dangerous Godzilla can be. this immediately puts the scene to an intense moment as to when they are going to fight this atmosphere sets up to an emotional connection to Godzilla as they want him to win as his there last hope for humanity. Their is very few non- diegetic sounds in the clips that was provided about the roar of Godzilla apart from the footsteps from people around these are the only non-diegetic sounds in the film bar chairs and tables moving and things falling down onto the floor. The reason for this is that this is a very heavily edited film.
